November 18, 1848 – A significant date in the history of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, as it marks the day when Ellen G. White received a divine vision that would set in motion the advent of a religious movement centered around the message of hope, redemption, and anticipation of Christ’s return.

This year, 2023, holds special significance as it marks the 175th anniversary of the publishing ministry of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The South Philippine Union Conference (SPUC) is joining in the global celebration of this remarkable milestone. Under the theme “Remembering the Past, Experiencing the Present, Preparing for the Future,” the SPUC is organizing a series of events and activities to commemorate this historic occasion.

The celebration encompasses four significant events that will bring together the members of the church and the broader community. These events are:

1. 175th Anniversary of the Publishing Ministry: This milestone is at the heart of the celebration, acknowledging the impact of the church’s publishing efforts over nearly two centuries. Through books, periodicals, and various forms of media, the church has spread its message of faith, health, and hope to millions worldwide.

2. 160th Church Founding Anniversary: As the Seventh-Day Adventist Church reaches its 160th year, it continues to be a source of spiritual guidance and a community that emphasizes a holistic approach to well-being – physical, mental, and spiritual.

3. LE (Literature Evangelists) Appreciation Day: Literature Evangelists play a crucial role in the dissemination of the church’s publications. This day is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating their contribution to the church’s mission of sharing the advent truth with the world.

4. Big Week with 4P1 Projects: Throughout the celebration, a week of activities and projects will engage the church and local communities. These projects will focus on the four pillars of the Adventist message – health, education, evangelism, and humanitarian service.

The spearhead of this grand celebration is Pr. Nildo Mamac, SPUC Publishing Director, whose dedication and vision are driving the events. Pr. Mamac is supported by the tireless efforts of publishing directors from various missions and conferences, as well as the dedicated pastors who are actively involved in the preparations and execution of these festivities.

The 175 years of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s publishing ministry have left an indelible mark on the world, offering guidance and hope to countless individuals. As the South Philippine Union Conference commemorates this anniversary, it’s a time not only to remember the past but to experience the present, and most importantly, to prepare for the future, inspired by the same vision that ignited this remarkable movement in 1848. This celebration reflects the enduring commitment of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church to its mission of sharing the message of Christ’s imminent return, and it stands as a testament to the power of faith, community, and service.
